CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP

I believe that to be an effective educator requires a commitment to continuous learning and personal development. I therefore regularly seek and engage in opportunities to enrich and add to my knowledge in the field of Industrial Psychology and to enhance my skills in the practice of teaching and research.

My registration as an Industrial Psychologist is contingent upon the accumulation of points for continuous professional development. I therefore regularly attend workshops and presentations offered by the Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology South Africa (SIOPSA) and the Tygerberg Forum for Industrial Psychologists. I have also served as the treasurer for the latter since 2015.

I have completed a number of short courses that have contributed significantly to my role as a teacher and researcher

Teaching related short courses

  • 2011: Professional Educational Development for Academics (PREDAC)
  • 2012: Emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning in higher education

CONTRIBUTION TO TEACHING

I value the opportunity to share and discuss my experimentation with novel approaches to teaching and learning. I have used various formal and informal formats to disseminate both my research and experiences in implementing innovative approaches to the scholarship of teaching and learning. My hope is that through sharing my challenges and successes that others will be encouraged to follow suit and experiment with new methods and approaches to engage their students and promote a love for learning.

Informal contributions to teaching and learning:

  • 2015: I presented a seminar titled: Think, observe, digest, reflect – Enhancing theory application through reflective e-portfolio’s: https://youtu.be/KbYP6NpjAGM
  • 2015: I collaborated with the Blended learning coordinator to develop a short video on the use of e-portfolios in my class. This formed part of a series of videos that lecturers could consult for ideas to improve their teaching and learning. http://www.sun.ac.za/english/learning-teaching/learning-teaching-enhancement/learning-technologies/Pages/Opportunities-for-reflection.aspx
